Ellen Shortell is Professor of the History of Art at Massachusetts College of Art and Design. She is Vice President of the international board of the Corpus Vitrearum, and serves on the editorial board of AVISTA and as an advisor to the board of the American Friends of Chartres. Her research and publications focus on Gothic architecture and stained glass in northern France and on 16th-17th-century Flemish stained glass, with a particular interest on the experience of images in architectural space. This has also led to the study of stained glass collecting in 19th-20th century Europe and America, and particularly to the role of the American architect Stanford White. Her publications include articles on the collegiate church of Saint-Quentin (Aisne) and on the cloister of Park Abbey, Leuven.
