Ellen Shortell is Professor Emeritus of the History of Art at Massachusetts College of Art and Design. She is Treasurer of the US committee and Vice President of the International Board of the Corpus Vitrearum. She also serves on the editorial board of AVISTA and as an advisor to the board of the American Friends of Chartres. The relationship between stained glass and architecture, in terms of design and building process as well as viewer experience, has been an ongoing theme in her work. Her research and publications focus on stained glass in northern France during the Gothic period, early modern Flemish stained glass, and the church and monastic buildings in which they were displayed. Her published work includes studies of the collegiate church of Saint-Quentin (Hautes-de-France) and of the cloister of Park Abbey in Heverlee, Leuven, Belgium.
